The Difference Between Home Care and Live-in Care: Explained
Home care refers to the care that is tailored to your needs and delivered right in the comfort of your own home. It can take various forms, including live-in care where a carer resides with you, regular visits from a carer, or specialized care services.

When comparing the costs, live-in care at home is generally more affordable than residential care home fees. Live-in care refers to personalized care and assistance provided by a professional caregiver who is available round-the-clock in the comfort of your own home.

If your savings exceed £23,250 (known as the upper capital limit or UCL), you will not receive financial assistance from your local council. Starting from October 2025, the UCL will increase to £100,000. If you own your own property, this rule applies only if you're moving into a care home.

If you need full-time care at home, there are a few different ways to get it. You can contact your local social services department for a needs assessment, which can take up to 6 months. However, there is a quicker way to find care online. You can review sites like or the regulator's website, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), to find care providers with good ratings and Reviews. Once you have found a few providers, you can contact them directly to discuss your needs.

Yes, you usually have to pay for care packages, either partially or fully. The amount you pay depends on your income, savings, and the level of care you need. You may be eligible for financial assistance from your Hampshire Council  or the NHS, but you should check with them to see if you qualify.
