Back in 2020, when the world felt uncertain, I found myself stepping into care work—something I hadn’t planned, but quickly grew to love. With so many sectors shutting down during COVID, I took a role in care thinking it would be temporary. What I didn’t expect was how much I’d come to enjoy it. 

From day one, it was the little things that made a big impact—seeing someone smile, knowing I’d helped someone feel safe at home, or sharing a laugh during a visit. Those small moments really matter, and they’re what made me stay. 

Over the last five years, I’ve gone from carer to team leader, supervisor, and now Care Coordinator. Each role has given me more insight into what good care looks like and how to support both our clients and the carers who make it happen. 

I joined Burleys Home Care because I wanted to be part of a team that truly cares. Burleys has such a strong local reputation, and from the start, it felt like a family. Everyone supports each other, and we always put people first—whether it’s a client or a colleague. 

I’ve also developed a real passion for dementia care. I’m currently completing my dementia training and I’m now proud to call myself a Dementia Friend. Understanding more about dementia has really deepened the way I work—it’s about being patient, present, and always respectful of the person behind the diagnosis. 

Outside of work, I love going for walks. I recently signed up for a Parkinson’s charity event in memory of one of my first clients—he made a big impact on me, and walking in his honour felt like a meaningful way to give back. 

Working in care has shown me that what we do—no matter how small—can change someone’s day, or even their life. And at Burleys, I get to do that every day alongside an amazing team.
