Home care training & development

We place great emphasis on the importance of training our care staff, as part of our commitment to providing home care and live-in care of the highest standard.

All of our carers complete an extensive and individual training programme, for which we have been awarded a number of accolades, including the ‘Brilliance in Business’ award,  ‘Award for Outstanding Customer Care’ and ‘Award for Training and Development’.

Your training and development

We want you to develop into the best carer you can be, which is why we are dedicated to supporting you throughout your training programme and beyond. We will also provide you with an experienced mentor, who will be there to guide and support you throughout your care training journey. Your individual training programme is broken down into three stages:

Each new employee will take part in a comprehensive 5-day Induction Training Programme to the National Care Certificate, a nationally approved programme. Key areas and aspects covered during this first week may include:

  • An induction to Burley’s Home Care
  • The National Care Certificate
  • Medication
  • Manual handling
  • First aid awareness
  • Health & safety
  • Fire safety
  • Risk management
  • Dementia awareness
  • Dignity in care

Your mentor will also be there every step of the way to shadow, provide support and sign you off.

12 week probation programme

Following your first week of classroom training, you will then accompany your mentor to meet some of our service users in the community. This gives you the excellent opportunity to get some hands-on experience in home care through direct observation in the workplace.

During this period, you will be regularly supervised by your mentor and will receive regular feedback from both them and those receiving your home and live-in care support.
