What is the Difference Between 24-Hour Care and Live-In Care?

Are you still unsure about the difference between 24-hour care and live in care? Don’t worry, we’re here to help you understand.

Live-in carers offer personalised care, solely focused on your needs, providing dedicated and unique assistance. Unlike residential care homes, a live-in carer provides one-on-one attention. This means you get personal care throughout the day.

The carer becomes a companion, always available to help you. It’s a more personal and tailored type of care for your loved one. A live in carer can be there to support when you cannot be around, they can carry out everyday tasks and even take them to hospital if they need to go. With your permissions they can also ask questions on your behalf.

A live in carer allows your loved one to stay in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by familiar surroundings, but it also enhances their sense of independence and improves their overall quality of life. This can be particularly important for individuals facing health challenges, such as those diagnosed with dementia or alzheimer’s disease.

Choosing live-in care at home provides your loved one with the reassurance and peace of mind they deserve. They can receive round-the-clock care and support without the need to move into a residential care home. It’s a wonderful alternative that ensures your loved one’s needs are met in the most intimate and personalised way possible.

How Much Does Live In Care Cost?

We’re confident our service is the most affordable way to enjoy the benefits of quality live-in care.We understand that cost of live-in care can be a concern for friends and family. To address this, we offer a range of flexible payment options and tailor our prices to meet your specific needs.

We offer a free consultation service. During the consultation, we can discuss your needs. We will then provide you with a personalised quote for our services.

We offer companionship, personal care, and support for complex conditions such as dementia. The cost for one person starts at £1,495 per week, while for a couple it starts at £1,839 per week. Our live-in care offers excellent value.

Package 1 Example – Elizabeth
From £1495

Elizabeth progressed to live in care as her health deteriorated, having had visiting carers for many years. Her family do not live close to her, and she has vascular dementia which has deteriorated to a point where she began to wander and could not look after herself. After a brief stay in a care home Elizabeth became unhappy, and her family decided to try live in care.

She loves spending time in her garden and meeting with friends, which she’s been able to continue with the support of her live in carer. Her family feels confident that they prioritise Elizabeth’s safety and wellbeing, allowing her to continue living with dementia in the way she chooses.

Package 2 Example – Mary
From £1495

Mary is very independent but has advanced dementia that affects her ability to look after herself properly. Her family wanted to ensure she could live in her home and are very involved in the management of her condition, so they arranged live in care to help her with daily tasks.

Mary is able to cope with living at home but needs extra help with personal care, meal preparation and medication management, which her carer does, along with taking her out every day as part of her routine. Mary is now able to stay at home and manage the symptoms of her condition with the help of her live in carer.

Couples Care Package Example – Joan & Mike
From £1450

Often, we support couples where one person has a serious health condition, such as with Joan and Mike. Joan had been caring for Mike for many years until she reached the point where she needed some extra help, and the married couple wanted to remain living together in their family home for as long as possible.

Mike’s condition has reached the point where he was bed bound and needed to use hoists for movement out of bed. Our live in carers were able to support the couple to live together, helping Joan to continue caring for her husband for over a year at home something that she would not have managed alone. Joan and Mike have adult children who visited regularly and loved seeing their parents able to still enjoy their time together.

Complex Care Package Example – Anne
From £1495

Elizabeth progressed to live in care as her health worsened, having had visiting carers for many years.

Her family feel confident that Elizabeth’s safety and wellbeing is prioritised and she is able to continue living with dementia in the way she chooses.

Is The Live-In Carer Cost More Affordable Than A Residential Care Home?

Live in care at home is a personal and tailored solution that caters to your unique needs, unlike the environment of a residential care home facility. With live in care, you receive one-on-one assistance and constant support in the comfort of your own home.

We understand that transitioning to a care home can disrupt your loved one’s daily routine and potentially change who they are. That’s why we believe that the best place to improve your quality of life is at home with their belongings and pets. If you’re uncertain about live in care, our Respite Care Services can be arranged to start within 48 hours of your assessment. This allows you and your loved one to choose the perfect companion, rather than opting for a care home.

When thinking about moving your loved one to a care home or nursing home, make sure the facility can meet your care needs. It should also accommodate the needs of other residents.

Care home staff ratios are usually one staff member for every ten patients. This setup does not allow for personalised care. Our customers say live-in carers provide a better and more unique experience compared to other options.

For couples, moving into a care home costs can start at £1,800 per week (£900 per person per week). In comparison, our live-in care for one person starts at £1,450 per week. Furthermore, we train all our live-in carers to support individuals with complex medical conditions.

What Does The Cost of Care include?

The fee for live in care for the elderly will remain the same unless the client’s needs drastically alter. We may apply an annual inflation increase, however. Therefore you can plan the costs of care over a period based on the average weekly fee.

  • Our fully managed service means you don’t have to do a thing. We employ, train and support our carers to an exceptional level.
  • One to one care in your own home.
  • A dedicated Care Manager to manage your care.
  • A team of consistent regular carers that you are happy with.
  • Occasional overnight cover.
  • Travel for the carer to and from your home

Live-in care is also a great option for couples who need live in care. We only charge a small additional fee for the second person requiring care. Having a live-in carer is a viable option for someone who lives alone. The cost of this option is lower than that of a premium care home.

Specialist Or Complex Care Live in Carer At Home

Burleys Home Care fees cover the full service. These fees go towards providing exceptional care. This care includes Companionship as well as more complex needs.

Our fees include a fully managed service, a dedicated carer, the management of your care and a care manager. We ensure that you are high quality with our services so you have peace of mind every step of the way.

How Can I Finance the Cost of 24-Hour Care?

Discover Your Care Funding Options.

When it comes to financing long-term care, you shouldn’t have to shoulder the burden alone. There are support options available that can help minimise the financial investment required for your chosen care option. You may qualify for social care funding from Local Council or healthcare funding from the NHS.

For families who have to self-fund their care, there are solutions to assist with the costs of live-in care. Consider a Care Fees Annuity, which is an insurance plan that covers care expenses. Alternatively, you can explore an Equity Release scheme to access the value of your assets.

NHS Continuing Healthcare: Get The Care You Deserve

In the UK, healthcare is free at the point of delivery. If you have a recognised healthcare need and receive care in your own home, you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding. This program, administered by your local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), can provide the financial support you need.

To determine eligibility, consult your GP for an initial assessment and referral to the CCG. A team of healthcare professionals will then conduct a thorough evaluation of your needs.

While conditions like dementia may not automatically qualify for NHS funding, it’s always worth investigating. This funding can significantly contribute to the overall cost of care and even cover the full amount in some cases. Keep in mind that funding is reviewed annually, so if your needs decrease due to high-quality care, your funding may be at risk.

Take Control Of Your Care: Self-Funding Options

For those who need to self-fund their care, two popular choices are Care Fees Annuities and Equity Release Schemes.

A Care Fees Annuity is an insurance policy that helps people pay for their care expenses. It is also called a ‘care fees plan.’ We will assess your current and future health and care needs. Then, we will set a fee to cover your weekly care costs.

Equity Release schemes empower homeowners aged 90 or older to unlock the value part of their property without selling or moving. This enables you to use your home’s value to pay for care fees or even purchase a care fees annuity.

Burleys Home Care collaborates with your Financial Advisors. Additionally, we also have partnership with management trust. that can support you through the process.

They offer reliable financial and legal advice from their team of experienced advisors. They also specialise in funding private care costs and can help you get the money you need for home care. All whilst giving you peace of mind and expert advice.

Which Type Of Live In Care Package Is Right For Me?

Making the decision to arrange live in care can feel like a big step, and we’re here to help explain the process and the many benefits for your family.

Not only does it mean that your loved one can continue to live in their own home, with the comfort of familiar memories and surroundings, but it gives you peace of mind in knowing they are safe and comfortable, and as well looked after as if you were there yourself. Our live in carers are highly trained, dedicated to their roles, and respectful of the unique position they hold in supporting someone around the clock.

Is live in care cheaper than a residential care home?

There are numerous factors to take into consideration when it comes to estimating the potential cost of live in care vs residential care, though typically, live in care almost always ends up more cost effective.

The average cost of residential care rose by 9.6% between 2016 and 2017, and with the number of people over 65 requiring 24 hour-care expected to increase by a third over the next 20 years, there’s a high likelihood that residential care home prices will only continue to rise as demands for a space increase.

Live in care costs are unaffected by many of the overhead factors that determine the price of residential care, making it more affordable overall. Our live in care service enables you or your loved one to remain in the comfort of their own home and receive specialist care.

At Burley’s Home Care family is at the heart of everything we do.

We are a family run, award winning business working with local families to care for their loved ones in their own homes. The business was set up by Paul and Carly who wanted to provide more options for in home care, and more focus on time being spent with clients as opposed to rushed clinical appointments which cover the basics but do little to ensure the emotional wellbeing of the client.
